Curriculum Details

The programme curriculum is built for creatives who want to shape — not just use — AI. You’ll explore AI as a creative medium while critically examining its possibilities, limits and cultural impact. In true Goldsmiths spirit, you won’t just adopt new technologies — you’ll challenge them.

Delivered part-time over two years, the programme runs in intensive 8-week design sprints, enabling you to rapidly prototype, test and refine creative AI concepts. Industry expert-led teaching and a high-touch approach ensure you build practical skills while developing a strong critical perspective.

You’ll collaborate in a shared virtual studio that mirrors real-world creative practice, working peer-to-peer in a structure that reflects industry. Engaging with the Creative AI division, you’ll develop both technical fluency and conceptual depth.

The programme culminates in a major final project, public showcase and symposium — giving you a substantial, portfolio-ready body of work and direct engagement with industry conversations.

If you want to push boundaries, question AI, and create ambitious collaborative work, this is your studio.

Multiple entry and exit routes available. Take breaks when you need them and choose a qualification that best suits you:

Please note that occasionally we may make changes to our programme curriculum. You may not always study modules in the order they are listed here.

Phase 1 – 60 credits

Credits

This module introduces the creative, technical and critical dimensions of AI-generated art. You’ll experiment with generative models like diffusion models, GANs and transformers while examining ethical and socio-economic implications. Assessment is a reflective blog demonstrating critical thinking and practical experimentation.
This module focuses on collaborative research and prototyping methods in Creative AI. You’ll learn to work collectively, document processes and design iterative prototypes from early experimentation to MVPs. Assessment is a group portfolio demonstrating collaborative research, and social and artistic considerations.
This module prepares you to design intermedial AI-driven creative projects. You’ll examine Creative AI practices through theoretical frameworks while experimenting across multiple tools and media. Assessment is a collaborative group or paired project proposal outlining your research context, methodology, and technical approach.
This module explores Creative AI through intermedial and transdisciplinary approaches. You’ll investigate human–machine learning relationships and create AI-informed works for a public symposium. Assessment combines a group symposium component (70%) with an individual reflective report (30%).

Phase 2 – 60 credits

Credits

This module explores archiving within digital and AI-driven creative practice. You’ll experiment with methods that disrupt and reimagine creative assets using Git, web frameworks, and multi-format documentation. Assessment is a group portfolio of artefacts demonstrating collaborative experimentation and critical reflection.
This module prepares you to collaborate with AI systems in creative industries. You’ll develop strategies for visibility, viability, and growth while navigating funding opportunities and professional pathways. Assessment is a portfolio demonstrating your market position and strategic sustainability plan.
This module centres on curating and publicly presenting collaborative Creative AI projects. You’ll organise a collective work from concept to delivery, focusing on critical curation and professional presentation. Assessment is a group portfolio documenting your creative process and public showcase.
This module develops critical reflection on your creative AI practice. You’ll assess experiences — including setbacks — and use insights to redefine professional aims. Assessment is a multimodal reflective report in your chosen format demonstrating how experiences have shaped your evolving practice goals.

Phase 3 – 60 credits

Credits

The programme capstone: a sustained creative AI project demonstrating advanced project management and professional communication. Assessment comprises a project plan (10%), major creative output (70%) and viva with reflective presentation (20%) discussing your process, decisions and challenges.
