Core

Exploring the principles and practices of strategic marketing, this module develops students’ ability to analyse markets, evaluate brands, and identify opportunities for growth and competitive advantage. Students will examine how organisations create customer value through market analysis, brand positioning, and the effective integration of the marketing mix. Drawing on academic theory and market evidence, they will learn to develop structured marketing plans that align objectives, goals, strategies, initiatives, and metrics with organisational priorities. The module also strengthens students’ ability to communicate and justify recommendations through persuasive written and oral presentations, preparing them to influence decision-making in professional marketing contexts.
Exploring the foundations of creativity and innovation, this module examines how new ideas emerge, develop, and generate value within organisations and society. Students will investigate psychological, social, and organisational perspectives on creativity, considering the individual and environmental factors that foster innovative thinking and behaviour. The module explores innovation processes, the characteristics of creative organisations, and the conditions that support the development of breakthrough ideas. Particular attention is given to the evolving role of artificial intelligence in creative and innovation processes, encouraging students to critically evaluate opportunities, challenges, and ethical implications. Through the application of theory to contemporary contexts, students will develop the knowledge and skills required to design environments and processes that stimulate creativity and support innovation.
Exploring the strategic management of innovation, this module develops students’ understanding of how organisations identify, evaluate, and develop new product opportunities in competitive and rapidly changing markets. Students will examine contemporary theories, frameworks, and processes that underpin new product development, from opportunity identification and idea generation to concept development and evaluation. Through the application of analytical and creative approaches, they will assess product feasibility, risk, and strategic value, while developing customer-focused solutions informed by market insight. The module culminates in the design and justification of an innovative product concept, enabling students to communicate its value proposition and strategic potential to professional audiences.
Exploring how organisations create, sustain, and execute competitive advantage, this module develops students’ understanding of the key concepts, frameworks, and debates that underpin strategic management. Students will examine the external and internal factors that influence organisational performance, applying strategic tools to analyse industries, markets, resources, capabilities, and competitive positioning. The module considers strategic decision-making at both business and corporate levels, including growth, diversification, internationalisation, and sustainability. Emphasis is placed on the relationship between strategy formulation and implementation, enabling students to evaluate how organisational structures, cultures, and capabilities support or constrain strategic success. Through the application of theory to real-world organisations, students will develop the analytical and critical skills required to diagnose strategic challenges and formulate evidence-based recommendations.
Exploring the role of research in evidence-based decision-making, this module develops students’ understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies and their application to market and business challenges. Students will examine the principles of research design, data collection, and analysis, applying appropriate methods to investigate business problems and generate actionable insights. Through engagement with a range of analytical techniques and software tools, they will develop the skills required to interpret qualitative and quantitative data, evaluate research findings, and communicate evidence-based recommendations. The module equips students to manage the research process from problem definition and proposal development through to analysis, interpretation, and the presentation of business insights.
Exploring how new markets emerge and evolve, this module examines the processes through which entrepreneurs, organisations, and technologies shape new forms of economic activity. Students will investigate contemporary theories of market creation, challenging the assumption that markets are fixed environments and instead considering how they are actively constructed, transformed, and legitimised. Through the analysis of real-world cases, the module explores the interplay between entrepreneurial decision-making, technological innovation, institutional change, and broader market forces. Students will develop the ability to evaluate emerging market opportunities, assess the potential of new technologies, and critically reflect on the societal and economic implications of market creation in contemporary economies.
Exploring the strategic, organisational, and societal implications of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, this module equips students with the knowledge and skills required to lead technology-enabled change in contemporary organisations. Students will examine how AI creates value, transforms business models, reshapes work, and influences organisational decision-making, drawing on perspectives from management, strategy, ethics, and information systems. The module critically evaluates the opportunities, risks, and governance challenges associated with AI adoption, including issues of fairness, accountability, regulation, and stakeholder impact. Through the application of theory to real-world contexts, students will develop evidence-based recommendations for the responsible implementation and management of AI in complex organisational environments.
Focusing on the process of creating and developing new ventures, this module equips students with the entrepreneurial knowledge and practical skills required to transform ideas into viable business opportunities. Students will explore theories of entrepreneurship, the characteristics of entrepreneurial behaviour, and the factors that influence opportunity recognition and business creation. Through the use of business modelling tools, lean start-up approaches, and business planning techniques, they will develop and evaluate new venture concepts, considering how value can be created, delivered, and captured. The module culminates in the development of a business model and business plan that demonstrate the strategic potential and feasibility of an entrepreneurial venture.
Exploring the development of effective leadership and people management capabilities, this module examines how leaders influence individuals, teams, and organisational outcomes. Students will explore leadership theories, communication and influence, team effectiveness, organisational culture, motivation, and ethical decision-making, applying these concepts to contemporary business contexts. Through self-assessment, collaborative activities, and engagement with practising leaders, they will develop an understanding of their own leadership style and its impact on others. The module encourages reflective practice and culminates in the creation of a personal leadership development plan designed to support future career progression and organisational effectiveness.
Focusing on the investigation of real-world business challenges, this module supports students in the design and delivery of an independent research project within the fields of management, marketing, consumer behaviour, entrepreneurship, innovation, or organisational development. Students will engage with the full research process, including question formulation, literature review, research design, ethical approval, data collection, analysis, and interpretation. By synthesising theoretical knowledge with empirical evidence, they will develop actionable recommendations for organisations, markets, or stakeholders. The module culminates in a substantial research report and professional presentation, enabling students to demonstrate advanced analytical, research, and communication skills.
